Copycat 'band' disrupts Mass at Cologne cathedral : News ...

CWN - August 22, 2012

Three protesters disrupted Mass at the cathedral of Cologne, Germany on August 19, in a show of solidarity with members of a Russian punk band who had been sentenced to 2 years in prison for a similar demonstration.

Last week a Russian court convicted the members of Pussy Riot, a feminist band, for staging a protest concert in that city?s Orthodox cathedral. The German protesters?one woman and two men?called for the release of the Russian women.

Ushers escorted the protesters out of the cathedral. They may face criminal charges for disrupting a religious service.

Bishop Heiner Koch, an auxiliary of the Cologne archdiocese who was presiding at the Sunday Mass, asked the congregation to pray for the people of Russia.
