ST. LOUIS (KTVI) -A St. Louis man has been missing since New Year?s Eve.? The family said he is a cancer patient who needs medication.

Melvin Evans, Jr., 57, hasn?t been seen since around 3:00am on December 31, 2012.? He is an African-American male with a medium complexion and green-gray eyes.? He is 5?7?, 150 lbs. with salt-and-pepper hair and a short beard.? He also has a distinguishing scar on his chest and over his left eyebrow.

Evans? roommate, Ned Hutchinson, said the man left their west St. Louis house on Montclair Avenue and Minerva Avenue.? He seemed fine the night he walked westbound on Page Avenue and disappeared.

?He would tell me things, if he had problems,? Hutchinson said.? ?Because, we talked closer than anything.?

Evans may have walked to a nearby gas station with a debit card to access his monthly disability payment.? St. Louis Metropolitan Police did not suspect foul play, but Evans? family said the man they call ?Junebug? missed their New Year?s Day brunch.

?Another day or two passed and nobody heard from Junebug,? said Evans? niece, Rhonda Evans. ??So, we were like, ?This is not normal.??

That is in part, because Evans took medication for stomach cancer.? After a week of not seeing him come home or take that medicine, the family filed a missing persons report.

?It?s been awful,? Hutchinson said the two had been friends for over a decade.? ?And it?s been frustrating?

?So, we put out flyers,? said his sister Melba Evans-Haynes.? ?We are hoping for the best.?

Doctors gave Evans one year to live.? That was five years ago.?

?He?s been beating it,? Rhonda explained.? ?He wasn?t supposed to live this long.?

Evans? niece admitted she felt cheated of precious days she could be spending with her uncle.? So she hoped her Junebug was somewhere safe and could hear this plea.

?We just want to let you know that we care.? We love you.? Call.? Come home, whatever it takes.?

If you know anything about the whereabouts or disappearance of Melvin Evans Jr., the family asks that you call St. Louis Metropolitan Police Missing Persons Division at (314)444-5349.?
